Juntos

What is a junto?

Meaning, "together" in Spanish, a junto is a mutual improvement society historically founded by Benjamin Franklin . We’re bringing them back for students with some 21st-century upgrades!

Who can join?

US or Canadian teen students 13 -19. In the future we hope to expand to older students and those in other countries.

What will we do in our junto?

Once a week you will meet online through Discord with two trained facilitators and 5~10 other students for around 90 minutes.

Each session will include check-ins, topics from the How to Navigate Life book, self-improvement discussions based on the five talents, topic dialogues, and closing reflections with goal setting - all within a safe, confidential, and caring environment.

Juntos are the support squad you always wished you had!

How is my privacy maintained?

A junto is a safe space and everything shared is confidential: first names only, no recordings, “what’s shared in the junto stays in the junto.” You can even use your Discord username if you prefer. We collect no other information.

When will juntos meet?

Every Sunday we will hold an open Junto session on Discord anybody can join!

Open junto sessions are hosted at:

7pm EST / 6pm CST / 5pm MST / 4pm PST every Sunday.

If that time doesn’t work for you, please let us know on Discord and we’ll see if we can hold sessions on other nights of the week.

Can joining a junto help with college admissions?

Juntos help you demonstrate good answers to the three questions colleges and employers want to know:

Will you work hard?
Do you have the skills to be successful?
Will you work well with others?

The talents and insights developed through BeSomeone juntos will help you craft eloquent and thoughtful essays for your college application.

Likewise, upon completing the first 8 weeks of your junto, your facilitator can provide you with a personalized letter of recommendation or reference for college applications and employment opportunities.

Can I join more than one junto?

Absolutely. And longer-term we expect to launch juntos organized around specific interests.

Cost

Does BeSomeone cost anything?

BeSomeone juntos are completely free! We do highly recommend purchasing the book How to Navigate Life by Liang and Klein, but it's not required.

How do I sign up?

It's super simple: join our Discord server here anytime and then attend an open Junto session any Sunday at 7pm EST / 6pm CST / 5pm MST / 4pm PST. That’s it!
